Big Nose Kate, whose real name was Mary Katherine Horony-Cummings, was a Hungarian-born American prostitute and romantic partner of the famous Old West outlaw Doc Holliday. She was born on November 7, 1850, in Pest, Hungary, and later immigrated to the United States with her family.
Kate became a prostitute at a young age and worked in various brothels in cities such as Dodge City and Tombstone in the American Old West. It was in Tombstone that she met Doc Holliday in the late 1870s, and they formed a passionate but tumultuous relationship.
Kate gained her nickname "Big Nose" due to her prominent nasal feature. Despite her profession and nickname, she was reputedly one of the more refined and educated women in the Wild West, speaking several languages and playing the piano.
She and Doc Holliday had a rocky relationship, often filled with arguments and violence, but they remained together for many years. However, their relationship eventually deteriorated, and they separated in the 1880s. Kate would have various relationships after Holliday's death in 1887.
After leaving Tombstone, Kate had a troubled life and struggled with alcoholism and poverty. She died on November 2, 1940, in a retirement home in Arizona.
